At Nourish Hub, our volunteers are at the very heart of everything we do. From serving daily community lunches and preparing Meals on Wheels, to supporting our NourishEd programmes and cultural events, they make it all possible. This year alone, our incredible volunteers have already contributed over 11,000 hours of their time and we are so grateful.
Earlier this year, we asked our volunteers to share their experiences in our 2025 Volunteer Survey. With a fantastic 62% response rate, the feedback not only helps us celebrate what’s working well but also shows how deeply valued and connected our volunteer community feels.
Who our volunteers are
- Most live locally and want to give back to their community.
- Many heard about Nourish Hub through friends’ recommendations or simply by walking past.
- Most give their time regularly, often weekly, with many supporting us for over a year and the number of volunteers with 2+ years’ experience has grown significantly this year.
Why they volunteer
- To make a positive difference in their community.
- To connect with others and build friendships.
- To gain confidence, skills, and even pathways into employment.
One volunteer shared “Joining Nourish Hub was one of the first things I did when I moved to London, and it helped me make friends and feel supported in a new city.”
What they told us
- Satisfaction is extremely high – volunteers feel valued, supported, and part of a team.
- Many highlighted the friendliness and professionalism of our staff as the biggest driver of their positive experience.
- Skills development is another key benefit: from confidence in the kitchen to better food waste awareness, many volunteers are applying what they’ve learned both at Nourish Hub and at home.
In fact, 75% of volunteers say they waste less food at home thanks to their time with us.
The impact of volunteering
For many, Nourish Hub has provided not just a volunteering role, but a safe and welcoming space to connect, learn, and grow:
“I feel my contribution is valued and that volunteers are really appreciated. I enjoy working as part of the team and feel supported and guided where I’m less confident.”
“Being part of a team and interacting with the community has massively improved my confidence in myself and in speaking.”
Thank you, volunteers!
We are so proud of our volunteer community and grateful for their dedication. Their energy, commitment, and kindness bring Nourish Hub’s mission to life every single day.
If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, now is the perfect time to get involved. Whether you want to meet new people, share your skills, or make a difference in your community, there’s a place for you here at Nourish Hub.
