Our Community Pantry at Nourish Hub

An alternative to traditional foodbanks, Nourish Hub has launched a fortnightly Community Pantry. Our Pantry was launched during our Open Day on 19th January. It was a great success and we’re so excited to see how this food offering continues to grow.

While Hammersmith and Fulham is home to some fantastic food projects, there is currently limited access to affordable fresh produce for many residents. Compared to other London boroughs, the number of pantries and similar initiatives is small, and this is a gap we are keen to address.

No referral is needed, and anyone can attend. Visitors are simply asked to bring a bag and make a suggested donation of £5, an amount that is flexible, recognising that people’s circumstances vary.

The Pantry provides nutritious, well-balanced food, rescued from across the supply chain. With around 80% fresh, perishable produce, visitors can choose from:

  • Fresh fruit and vegetables
  • Protein options such as meat, fish, cheese and eggs
  • Store-cupboard staples including pasta, rice and beans

Typically, one visit provides around 10 kg of food, with an estimated retail value of £25, a meaningful support at a time when food costs continue to rise.

“Just wanted to say a BIG thank you for today.  It was well worth £5.00 and has helped me out so much. Wonderful food and lovely helpful staff. I hope it continues.” Pantry customer

Through NOURISHEd, our education and outreach programme, many residents have gained the skills and confidence to cook healthy, sustainable meals on a budget, however, feedback consistently shows that access to affordable fresh ingredients remains a major barrier.

The Community Pantry helps bridge this gap between skills, education and access in a way that supports dignity, choice and independence.

Visit our What’s On page to find out when the next Pantry will take place. We look forward to seeing you there! Why not stay for lunch and find out more about Nourish Hub and what we do in Hammersmith and Fulham, providing access to food, food education and community support.
