Last week, Nourish Hub celebrated its 4th birthday, a moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate everything that has been built alongside our community. Bringing together residents, volunteers, partners and supporters, the morning was a joyful reminder that while food brings people through our doors, it is connection, care and community that define what the Hub truly is.
Guests were welcomed with a vibrant breakfast feast, thoughtfully prepared by our kitchen team, lead on by Chef Tom, using rescued surplus food. From beetroot burgers with curry lime mayo and veggie samosas, to Irish potato farls and homemade cakes, the menu reflected the creativity and care that sits at the heart of Nourish Hub.
Surrounded by a “Then & Now” photo display capturing the journey from our early days to today, the space quickly filled with conversation, laughter and connection.
Opening the event, Hub Manager Andreea reflected on the journey so far: “Nourish Hub is a place where people come to connect, rebuild confidence, and feel part of something.”
Over the past four years, Nourish Hub has welcomed thousands of people, serving meals, redistributing surplus food, running education programmes and creating opportunities for people to learn, volunteer and grow. But as the morning’s speakers reminded us, the real impact lies in the individual journeys behind those numbers, in the friendships formed, the confidence built, and the sense of belonging created within the space.
Her Worshipful The Mayor of Hammersmith and Fulham, Councillor Sharon Holder, reflected on this impact in her speech: “Nourish Hub is not just a place where meals are served, it is a place where connections are built, confidence is restored, and community is strengthened.”
One of those voices was Noa, who shared their personal journey: “I came here because I was looking for work. I trained with Idris as a barista… this space is brilliant. I cannot express enough how much the community loves this. The spirit is great – community is such a perfect word to describe it.”
The celebration brought these stories to life. Guests heard from volunteers, residents and partners, shared messages for the Hub, and took part in small moments of joy – from voting on community garden designs to gathering together for cake and a lively piñata moment.
The birthday cake itself was a perfect reflection of the Hub’s spirit, lovingly made by volunteer Niall and beautifully decorated by volunteer Jo. It disappeared within minutes, a small but meaningful reminder of the generosity, creativity and shared ownership that runs through everything at Nourish Hub.
What stood out most was the people. Volunteers, staff, partners and community members all play a role in shaping Nourish Hub, making it not just a place where food is served, but a space that is truly owned and brought to life by its community.
As we look ahead, we remain committed to growing this impact, reaching more people, strengthening partnerships, and continuing to respond to the needs of our community with dignity, creativity and care.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey so far.
