The team at Nourish Hub were absolutely delighted to welcome over 50 friends of Nourish Hub to our official opening of the Community Garden on our forecourt in July.

We welcomed members from the local council, the garden designer, some of our incredible volunteers and friends from our community.

Thanks to funding from HF Green Resilience Fund, nominated by a local resident and member of the Green Resilience committee, Nourish Hub is now home to an expertly designed and created community garden space. 

“Reducing or removing the barriers that prevent communities from thriving is fundamental to the work we do at UKHarvest. Often those barriers come in the form of access. This garden space it the perfect example of accessibility, collaboration and togetherness, where everyone, for whatever reason, can come together to experience, to learn and to connect, using this beautiful green space.” UKHarvest’s Interim COO, Lauren Stoner. 

The forecourt area is now home to planters, accessible pathways with trellis and both edible and ornamental plants.  The aim of the green space is to provide a haven, a sensory break from urban distractions, and a place for the community to get closer to nature. Later in the year, the team at Nourish Hub plans to deliver wellbeing and gardening workshops to support those that want to gain more horticultural knowledge and support their wellbeing in a safe, user-friendly community space.  

Nourish Hub hosted a celebratory Community Supper to officially open the forecourt space. Attended by Councillor Rowan Ree and officially opened by Councillor Sharon Holder, the Mayor of Hammersmith & Fulham. Councillor Holder is a long-standing supporter of Nourish Hub and was delighted to attend the opening, sharing “This beautiful new forecourt garden is far more than an attractive entrance. It has been thoughtfully designed to be a place where people can grow fresh food, learn new skills, improve their wellbeing, and build lasting friendships. 

The build was conducted by Hammersmith Community Garden Association (HCGA), an organisation that Nourish Hub has worked closely with on community engagement projects. Members of the team spent two days building, planting and arranging the selection of edible, sensory and pollinator-friendly plants which immediately brought the space to life. 

This space is not only for those that use Nourish Hub. It is for the local residents, commuters, the walkers. It is for everyone in the area to enjoy and experience.
