Celebrating International Women’s Day at Nourish Hub!

This year, we marked International Women’s Day by welcoming an inspiring group of women to explore how nutrition changes across a woman’s lifetime. The session was delivered by Helen (Education and Events Coordinator) and Ffion (Nourish Hub Manager), providing an opportunity to not only celebrate the incredible adaptability of women’s bodies but also to educate women of all ages on how nutrition, diet, and lifestyle can support them through the various changes they experience.

Puberty:

We began by exploring puberty, one of the most transformational stages in a women’s life, during which bone mass increases by an incredible 40%. We also looked at how women’s caloric and nutrient needs fluctuate throughout the menstrual cycle—and yes, there’s science behind those chocolate cravings at certain times of the month!

Pregnancy and Postpartum:

Following puberty, we delved into nutrition before, during, and after pregnancy—a time of immense change and growth. We discussed how dietary choices can support both the mother and the developing baby.

Menopause and Beyond:

Finally, we explored the impact of menopause on bone health and metabolism, highlighting how consuming soya can reduce the severity of hot flushes by up to 30% for women experiencing symptoms.

A Morning of Learning and Connection

The session sparked plenty of questions and lively discussions, giving participants the knowledge and confidence to nourish their bodies through every stage of life.
