Halloween and Harvest Festival at the Nourish Hub

During October half term, the Nourish Hub welcomed 40 young people aged 10-14 to enjoy three days of Fund Food Clubs. These sessions were kindly funded by LMP Action and part of the wider Holiday Activities and Food Programme (HAF) delivered nationally.

Each session was Harvest Festival and Halloween themed! Children painted, plaited, and baked their way through the day creating a harvest festival mural, their own plaited harvest loaf and were fed a hearty and nourishing hot meal.

Have a look at some of the images from the week. It was a fantastic time for both the young people and the team at Nourish Hub, with lots of food, laughter and creativity taking place.

When asked for feedback, the children who participated said:

“I learnt how much pumpkin is wasted each Halloween, and how to make a plait out of bread.”

“I love how kind the people are and how much you learn about cooking.”

“My favourite part was the bread. I didn’t know that bread I made was so delicious and it was fun to make!”

“I learnt how to knead dough and why that is important when bread making.”

If your young person is interested in attending the next Fun Food Club, sign up on Plinth for a festive themed morning on 23rd December from 9:30 to 12, midday.

“The team were amazing. We walked into a beautiful space that had been decorated with care and attention. We were given a very warm welcome and given full information about the menu and we had an absolutely wonderful time.”
Making cooking and good food accessible means creating opportunities for everyone to take part, learn new skills, and enjoy the confidence that comes from preparing food independently. It also means ensuring people can access nutritious meals in ways that meet their individual needs. Food and community spaces should be inclusive, supportive, and designed so everyone can participate and thrive.
Last week, Nourish Hub celebrated its 4th birthday - a moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate everything that has been built alongside our community. Bringing together residents, volunteers, partners and supporters, the morning was a joyful reminder that while food brings people through our doors, it is connection, care and community that define what the Hub truly is. Read on to find out who attended, what we all ate and why it was such a magical celebration with friends and colleagues.
